The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Jeep takes the cake! This Year! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought a Jeep Limited 4.7L about one month ago. I so impressed by its good looks and its performance, Im getting a HEMI next!

  • Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4--Gotta Hemi! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Hemi makes this 4x4 SUV stand out from the other mid size SUVs that I test drove before buying. I like the clean lines and boxy look better than the tack on fender flares and side cladding of others. The interior is functional, the controls are simple to read/use, and the seats are firm -- supportive for a long drive. Im 62" and find it roomy, and my girlfriend likes driving it as well (she is 54"). Weve done mild offroading and towing, and it executes flawlessly. No problems to note in 14k miles, except for a couple of recalls (reprogram fog lights & reflash computer). I chose the Jeep over the Toyota 4 Runner Limited, but you couldnt go wrong either way.

  • Disgusted In my Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Hemi is a big pile of junk. Ive had nothing but problems with it since buying it in 2008. I had to replace the Starter at 60,000. Fuel Pump at 65,000. Transmission at 77,000. Power Steering Pump and Line at 78,000. 4 new tires at 55,000 miles, battery at 60,000. I feel like the jeep is in the shop more than I have driven it. Very unreliable but have so much stuck into it, feel sick to trade in. Currently my Service 4WD system light came on and I just got it back from getting a new Power Steering Pump. Dealer has been nothing but rude. We will never but another jeep again.

  • The Best One Yet - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 3rd Grand Cherokee and by far the best. Highway mileage is 22.5 and around town 19. The seats are a big improvement as is the handling and build quality. A pleasure to drive. 10 times better than the 2000 model. I currently have 12,000 miles tallied without ANY problems. Traction control works great, especially like the remote liftgate window opener on the key. The hi-beams literally turn night into day.

  • Keeping my fingers crossed - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

As of today Ive had no complaints (other than the horrendous gas mileage 11 in town) or visits to the dealership. The vehicle is nimble for an SUV, good acceleration, much more reliable than my previously owned Tahoe and Suburban, comfortably luxurious for a medium sized woman, but my 511 husband constantly complains that the interior is too small...no headroom (hits his head getting in),cramped leg room, uncomfortable passenger seat, rear view mirror creates a blind spot, cargo space is smaller than that of my CR-V. He wants me to trade it in for a 4-runner, sequoia or armada, but Im holding out as it is myride. Hope my good luck continues as other reports are alarming.

We had an Isuzu Axiom and Ford Escape before this and were disappointed in both. The Jeep is trouble-free and costs nothing but gas and an occasional oil change. On the other hand, our MB S430 lives in the repair shop. Go figure.

  • Love it! With caveats! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 3rd 4WD Jeep Grand Cherokee (4wd, 3.7l, 6cyl). It is quieter, smoother, has a tighter turning radius. Electric 4WD did away with some ridiculous (to a female) maneuvers to change the drive function. In spite of problems that kept it off the road several times, Chrysler responded with our persistence to keep (fingers crossed) it from becoming a lemon - I DO LOVE IT!

  • 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased the vehicle new. It is a Laredo Rocky Mountain edition with the 4.7L V-8. Shortly after I purchased it, the "Service 4 wheel drive" message appeared. It took the dealer several weeks to resolve the problem. The same error message still occasionally occurs, but the vehicle operates fine. Gas mileage is 10-12 city and 14-18 highway. For the last 3 years, the car has been in Mexico. The roads are very rough an dusty. The car is holding up exceptionally well. A recent problem is a noise near the rear axle. Otherwise, all is well at 66K miles.

  • Some good some bad - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When I bought this car new, it was absolutely what I wanted - for about 10 miles. I had to turn in the car I bought and get a whole new vehicle because nobody could figure out why there was so much terrible wind noise and why is sputtered going up hills in low gear. The new one had similar transmission problems but a recall fix eliminated 99% of the sputtering. When the AC is really cranked, it can sputter a little at times at low speed when trying accelerate. However, this car has been really a gem other than that. No mechanical issues, good ride, takes off road bumps like a champ, and has been remarkably maneuverable in avoiding accidents. Great family car.

  • I gotta a Hemi under there! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love my new Jeep. Its loaded with everything I want in a car. And it still rides like a car. I also own a 99 JGC Laredo with almost 160,000 miles on it. It was hard to give it up and commit to the new Jeep, but after doing so, my kids are now enjoying an everyday Jeep themselves. I guess you could say I love my Jeeps.
